Gorham's Founding Celebration History
Gorham has enjoyed a rich history starting in 1736 when the first settlers landed at Phinney's Rock.  For a complete chronology please click here to visit the Gorham Historical Societies' website.  We have compiled a quick history of Gorham's celebrations over the last 275 years:


1736 First settlers, Captain John Phinney and son Edmund landed on southerly side of the 
Li
ttle River.
1738 Hugh McLellan and Daniel Mosier came to Gorham.

1764

Town Incorporated, October 24th, population 340, sixty to seventy families.
Narraganset #7 was incorporated as the Town of Gorham (Captain John Gorham,
Plymouth Company Commander during King Philip's War received payment with land
known as Narragansett #7).

1836 First Centennial Celebration, June 10th
